The circuit breaker has the functions of overload protection, short-circuit protection and under-voltage protection, and has the ability to protect the lines and the power supply.
“Vacuum circuit breaker” gets its name because both the arc extinguishing medium and the insulation medium between the contacts after arc extinguishing are high vacuum. It has the advantages of small size, light weight, suitability for frequent operation, and no need for maintenance during arc extinguishing. It is widely used in distribution networks.
The working principle of the vacuum circuit breaker is as follows: When the moving and static contacts are separated under the action of the operating mechanism, an arc is generated between the contacts. The surface of the contacts evaporates steam under high temperature. Due to the special shape of the contacts, a magnetic field is generated when the current passes through, and the arc moves rapidly along the tangent direction of the contact surface under the action of this magnetic field. Some metal vapor condenses on the metal cylinder (shielding cover), and the arc extinguishes when it naturally returns to zero. The dielectric strength between the contacts quickly recovers.
